The Creative Collective of my Past and Future Self is a multichannel projection piece that was installed in the Anderson Gallery D1 from March 24rd to the 29th of 2023. The full completed piece is a 12-part video series, each with different backgrounds. Each of the twelve parts are given a role; examples include the teller, the mourner, and the ringleader. All twelve of these video figures are in remembrance of the twelve breakthroughs in my artistic career, and work together as I produce new media inspired by my previous art styles. The installation, however, included just 7 video pieces and 4 audio pieces, each ranging from 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length.

The decision to make this piece an installation experience was made early into the design process, but halted a lot of other creative choices along the way. For example, not knowing what gallery in the Anderson until February of 2023 affected the structure of the pieces together, where equipment would be placed, and the scale I could make the final install.

Something I learned throughout the production process was my interest in equipment. I really enjoyed seeing the piece come to life as I built the environment around it. Having never done a public installation, or an installation at this scale, I ran into a lot of roadblocks that caused me to quickly find solutions, including issues with speakers, limited access to cables and power, and the depth of projectors. The next time I do a video installation, I now know what types of equipment and practices with them I will use over others.

Something in the future that I would like to complete to further elevate this piece is to fully finish the 12 pieces of this series, as only 8 of the parts were showcased in the installation. I would also like to finish my website visual journal that accompanies it. This was something I considered completing for my final for this course, but was afraid to commit to it because of the big and daunting ideas I had for it. I have already begun the design process, including some of the artifacts from the pre-planning and production stage, but those have yet to be published to my website for public view.

Other than my piece, I also designed the poster advertisement for my round of the KI Capstone, assisted by Ximena Guerrero-Zdeinert, Marie Anderson, and Acacia Crockett-Oliver.
